Information for Students

Welcome to HCD!

Are you interested in helping foster young children's development? In learning how to help families remain resilient? In the Department of Human and Community Development, you'll find undergraduate programs in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) geared toward these interests and more, whether it's helping strengthen families' ability to manage change and conflict, equipping effective preschool teachers and childcare professionals, or improving the institutions and communities that serve the needs of children and families.

As an HDFS student, you'll be part of a community of scholars who share a common interest in helping children, families, and communities maximize their potential and create a sustainable future. You'll find this commitment woven throughout all our activities -- in our classrooms, in our research programs, and in our many opportunities for community service.

We invite you to explore the links in the green panel at the top of this page to learn more about us and what we have to offer. If you share our commitment, and if you're interested in a program where most class sizes are small and each student has a faculty advisor, we hope you'll decide to join us!
